1. What do you make?

I paint robots. Acrylic on canvas.

2. Why do you make what you make?1977416_10152357171654634_971616875093215670_n

I love the idea of the cold, hard robot with the great big heart and all the emotions that come with it. Sometimes they’re up, sometimes they’re down.

3. What’s your favourite item you make?

One of my absolute favourites is a robot I paint under a great big, full moon. My husband spends a lot of time out of time for work, but we remind each other that we’re always under the same moon. Just like us, the robots sometimes need to be reminded that the distance isn’t so great.

4. Pick your favourite local maker (besides yourself).

I think it has to be a three way split – Salgado Fenwick, Robin Light and Justine Ma

5. What do you love about Edmonton?

I think my favourite thing about Edmonton is watching the city come alive with spring. Winter is so long and (this year especially) so cold that spring is such a welcome change. And the summer festivals, so much fun! And the restaurants, so tasty. And, of course, there’s the Mercer On the Spot Makers’ Markets!

1. What do you make?

My speciality is handcrafted bow ties for babies and children. I also make chiffon hair clips for little girls and unique canvas car seat canopies. My newest and most popular item are my rustic and natural wooden bow ties!

2. Why do you make what you make?nest1

I love contributing to our local handmade market by creating unique accessories with a bit of a modern twist. I shop for unique items and I know there’s lots of people like me out there so that’s why I make what I make!

3. What’s your favourite item you make?

My favorite item to make are my bow ties. My bow ties are different because I use special prints, fabrics and materials that you can’t find anywhere else. Each Dear Fawn bow tie is special – Some are vintage fabrics that date back to the 1950s and some are limited edition prints. I am in love with my wooden bow ties! My wooden bow ties have been a huge success in fashionable cities like New York and LA! I am so happy to be spreading the love here in my home town.

4. Pick your favourite local maker (besides yourself).

2. Why do you make what you make?
I have a passion for the fibre arts and I am constantly inspired and new designs just bubble up! For instance- I adore Albert Einstein, so I simply had to design woven Einstein dolls. After all, who wouldn’t want to have tea with Einstein?
Also, I respond to people’s requests- They have asked me for baby safe toys, so I have designed all kinds of wonderful toys that are colorful, with embroidered features and have no beads or buttons. I designed my octopi so they can hang from strollers or cribs and have plastic rings with other goodies hanging from them. I spend a lot of time figuring out the logistics of what I make.

3. What’s your favourite item you make?
I love them all- everything I make is made with love in every stitch. If I don’t love it, I won’t make it. That being said, I do love my woven sloths so much… and of course, my Einstein dolls. and… and.. and….

4. Pick your favourite local maker (besides yourself).
That’s so easy! My daughter, Chloe Findlay-Harder and my daughter-in-law, Alliston Findlay. They are both gifted fibre artists and they make gorgeous things!

5. What do you love about Edmonton?
The people!!!! And,the wonderfully exuberant, flourishing arts scene.
