Welcome to On the Spot Pop Ups, Keri V. Leatherworks, so what do you make?
I design, cut and sew custom leather goods from purses and handbags to accessories, wallets for men and ladies, and satchels. Every item is made from hand-picked leather, usually upholstery hides, but sometimes I use other leather such as lamb and pigskin. Each is unique with it’s own characteristics. I design each item with functionality in mind, thinking about how they will be used and what they will be used for for years to come.
What makes your business unique?
Keri V. Leatherworks is a unique business in that I am it. Every item, from start to finish is my own creation. I love the thought of making a “functional art” that becomes a loved, well-worn piece that is a part of every-day life. Cherished, but not too precious to handle the every-day.
How long have you been in business?
I’ve been working with leather just coming up on four years this spring.
What do you love about Edmonton?
Over the past five years or so, I have really fallen in love with our Prairie City. I’m born and raised in Edmonton and area, and this lovely city just keeps getting better and better. We have pride in what we do and where we come from, and people really value items that are grown or crafted locally. Being a part of the handmade community has bee n an inspiration – there are talented people in this city!!
