1. What do you make?
I design, weave and knit whimsical, quirky, toys, accessories and garments. I also make wooden buttons, and tiny looms for weaving dragonflies.
2. Why do you make what you make?
I have a passion for the fibre arts and I am constantly inspired and new designs just bubble up! For instance- I adore Albert Einstein, so I simply had to design woven Einstein dolls. After all, who wouldn’t want to have tea with Einstein?
Also, I respond to people’s requests- They have asked me for baby safe toys, so I have designed all kinds of wonderful toys that are colorful, with embroidered features and have no beads or buttons. I designed my octopi so they can hang from strollers or cribs and have plastic rings with other goodies hanging from them. I spend a lot of time figuring out the logistics of what I make.
3. What’s your favourite item you make?
I love them all- everything I make is made with love in every stitch. If I don’t love it, I won’t make it. That being said, I do love my woven sloths so much… and of course, my Einstein dolls. and… and.. and….
4. Pick your favourite local maker (besides yourself).
That’s so easy! My daughter, Chloe Findlay-Harder and my daughter-in-law, Alliston Findlay. They are both gifted fibre artists and they make gorgeous things!
5. What do you love about Edmonton?
The people!!!! And,the wonderfully exuberant, flourishing arts scene.
